Michael Balk is a Presenter, Actor, Producer and Singer and currently works in Children’s Television with the Nine Network in Brisbane. Prior to his role with Nine, he appeared in the Network Ten preschool show, Wurrawhy.
He’s a familiar presence on TV, in over 128 countries around the world: he plays the feature role of scrapboy in ABC kids show dirtgirlworld. The program was awarded the 2010 AFI Award for Best Animated Childrens Program, a Logie and BAFTA nomination in 2011, and the 2013 International Digital Emmy Award for Children’s TV.
Get Grubby TV is a new live-action series on the ABC featuring the original characters from dirtgirlworld. Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia has joined the cast as the loveable Costa the Garden Gnome.
Over the last seventeen years Michael has had extensive involvement in Theatre, Film, Corporate Videos, TV Commercials (Hungry Jacks, Coca Cola, OPSM, RACQ, Subway and most recently Ladbrokes, to note a few), Major Corporate and Community & Charity Events. He was also the Lead Presenter and Director of Entertainment at Australia Zoo.
A proud member of MEAA since 2000, Michael is currently a professional member of AACTA and the President of Equity Queensland. Michael is also a member of the National Performers Committee, and represents Queensland on the Equity Foundation Program Committee and the Animation Committee.
Michael is the Vice President of the Actors' & Entertainers Benevolent Fund (Qld), and works tirelessly with the management committe to assist performers in need.
